To enhance the educational environment at Hopewell School and other programs that are broad in impact, to enrich students' minds and help to keep their bodies healthy.
Cross country Skate Ski Program: The grade five students participated in this ski program with three sessions scheduled in January and three in February. Each student went to one session. It was run by a local group called SkiXCountry Fast, and Council covered the cost of the program ($8.00 per child) and the students paid for the transportation. The students were bused to the Terry Fox Facility at Mooney’s Bay for a 2-hour clinic lead by trained instructors. All the ski equipment was supplied.
Space Camp: The grade six students went to the Cosmodome to attend a three day Space Camp in February. This amazing opportunity in a world class facility is subsidized by School Council and has become a grade six academic tradition. This year 85 students will take part in scientific activities including simulators such as the multi axis gravity chair and zero gravity simulators. They also performed a mock mission of a shuttle launch.
Art Cart: This is a moveable cart that Council provides. It is stocked with a huge array of art supplies such as pastels, paints, brushes, and paper and it is available to be used by all classes.
Science Cart: This is a moveable cart that Council has built. It will be supplied with consumable supplies and equipped with a set of levers, pulleys and magnets. It will be available to be used by all classes to conduct experiments.
